Community Class: Upcycling with Embroidery

with Rebecca Holopter

$35

Lets add some flair to an old favorite tee or garment!  In this workshop, we will start with a practice project so students have the chance to learn basic embroidery stitches, and then we will begin embellishing our very own clothes!

Students are asked to bring a pre-loved tee shirt, sweater, skirt, or pair of pants to embroider. Denim or heavy canvas might be hard on your fingers, so just keep that in mind.

We will have an option to purchase an organic cotton bandana ($6) to embroider if you don’t have anything to bring. Embroidery hoop + needle will be available to purchase ($5) and take home as well!

All other materials will be provided.

Feel free to BYOB

Our Policies:

  • Please try to arrive 5-10 minutes early for your workshop. Workshops start on time. If you are more that 15 minutes late for your class, you may forfeit your chance to take the class.

  • You may cancel for a refund up to 21 days before the workshop. After that, workshop fees are not refundable.

  • We reserve the right cancel or reschedule a workshop with fewer than 4 sign ups. If you cannot attend the rescheduled date, you will receive a refund.

  • Please note that we may take photos during the workshop to use on social media. If you do wish to be photographed, please let the teacher know when you arrive.

  • If you are sick, please stay home. Call or email to let us know that you are not coming.

  • Last minute cancellations are extremely challenging for our guest teachers. Often times, materials have been meticulously prepared ahead of time. Keep in mind that late cancellations are a financial burden on these very special artists.

Rebecca Holopter is a multi-hyphenate artist who focuses on ease, joy, and nostalgia. Jealous of her brother's ninja turtle drawings, Rebecca's aunt set her down at a young age and said "it's just practice." With this sentiment, Rebecca continued to practice and study art throughout college. In 2015 she drew and animal a day (maintaining the practice while drinking wine in Italy!) and in 2016 she extended the practice with a watercolor painting a day. Since then she has continued with watercolor adding in other art mediums such as embroidery, acrylic, and pastels to explore skin tones and textures in colorful portraits and the freedom in excessive abstracts. She has taught in different mediums for the past 6 years and encourages her students with the same sentiment that was instilled in her - it's all just practice.
