Rebecca Holopter is a multi-hyphenate artist who focuses on ease, joy, and nostalgia. Jealous of her brother's ninja turtle drawings, Rebecca's aunt set her down at a young age and said "it's just practice." With this sentiment, Rebecca continued to practice and study art throughout college. In 2015 she drew and animal a day (maintaining the practice while drinking wine in Italy!) and in 2016 she extended the practice with a watercolor painting a day. Since then she has continued with watercolor adding in other art mediums such as embroidery, acrylic, and pastels to explore skin tones and textures in colorful portraits and the freedom in excessive abstracts. She has taught in different mediums for the past 6 years and encourages her students with the same sentiment that was instilled in her - it's all just practice.

Traces of Your Kitchen: A Food + Natural Dye Workshop

Traces of Your Kitchen: A Food + Natural Dye Workshop

with Laura Castro + Lindfors Farms

$130

Join artist Laura Castro and Chef Christian Lindfors for an evening that will reshape our approach to consumption, starting with the simple act of eating.

At the heart of our experience is a shared meal, featuring a wood-fire pizza designed for this workshop by Christian from Lindfors Farms. As a group, we will prepare the ingredients for this special meal, learn about the benefits that each ingredient has for our health, and will also focus on a unique aspect of these foods: how to to repurpose their waste into colorful silk scarves!

While our food is cooking in wood-fire ovens, we will delve into the art of natural dyeing, using the skins and seeds of our ingredients to create vibrant pigments through BUNDLE DYE, and witnessing the beauty of kitchen waste transformed into colors and textures. Each scarf is a unique expression of our shared journey, a symbol of sustainability and creativity to appreciate beyond the table.

Sewing Level II: Sew a Tee Shirt

Sewing Level II: Sew a Tee Shirt

Sewing Level II: Sew a Tee Shirt

$150

In this workshop, we will construct a not-so-basic basic – a cotton tee shirt! This class will explore the nuances of sewing knit cotton jersey, a stretch material that behaves differently from more structured woven fabrics.  If you have found yourself struggling to make the jump to knits, this workshop is for you!  We will spend lots of time working with a serger, learn to attach a rib collar, and will use stretch-friendly finishing stitches that can be done on any home machine.

Choose from two different tee shirt styles – a classic tee or a boxy crop.  White cotton jersey and 1x1 rib will be provided (both fabrics milled locally in Los Angeles), and we will sew with cotton thread so the shirts can be dyed to the color of your choice after the workshop.

This class is perfect for the intermediate beginner who already has basic experience and competency with a sewing machine. Some experience with a serger is ideal, but not necessary.

Please refer to the size chart below to select your style and size. You will prompted to enter this at checkout!

Watercolor Play on Yupo & Mineral Paper

Watercolor Play on Yupo & Mineral Paper

with Mirina Moloney Art

$115

In this experimental watercolor class, students will explore with paint, salt and other materials on Yupo and Stone Papers. Students are encouraged to experiment in the spirit of play, try new techniques, take risks, embrace mistakes and let go of judgement as this is when we allow our most creative selves to shine. All students will go home with a framed piece.

What is Yupo Paper?

It is a synthetic, recyclable and waterproof paper with unique attributes that create different effects from traditional woodpulp or cotton paper. It's smooth, non-absorbent surface allows the paint to flow more freely and colors to stay especially bold and vibrant.

What is Mineral Paper?

It is made up of 80% calcium carbonate (mineral found in shells and stone) and has a smooth, vellum-like surface which allows for more fluid movement than traditional watercolor paper but is more absorbant than Yupo, creating it's own unique effect.
